Hjemedbt af herr Stiftsprovst Flottman d 30te April 1847 The numbers below the parents names refers to some kind of adress Sigvart was born 29th of April and his baptism was officially confirmed in the Church (Nykirken) in Bergen on 14th of November. The home baptism done close to the birth was usually done because the child was sickly and might die before his official baptism, and they needed to be baptised prior to death or they would not go to heaven. That is way too simplistic of an explanation. Dates of baptism can be way after the birth just because the family could not get to the minister and the church for any number of reasons. Anyway the father was a Styrmand or ship's mate. The mother's name says fdt Bartz, meaning her maiden name was Bartz. Since she is a widow I believe the Weibel was her married name from the 1st marriage. The 2.----6.--- in a big city like Bergen indicates the residence (here most likely the mother, since it was illegitimate) was in section 2 and dwelling number 6. I don't know how to find exactly where section 2 was. The home baptism was performed by Stiftsprst (Archdeacon) on the 30th of April, the day after the birth. Once the child was well enough to bring to the actual Church, in this case in November, he was presented and officially baptized in the Church. I am not sure what the surname of the archdeacon was. Something like Flottermand maybe. Edward A. Scriven Layton, UT Always be happy!!. ___________________ 1865 Norway census 1865-telling for 1301 Bergen Hordaland, Bergen List no. Farm no.
