Mary Crites father was Robert Jesse Crites, his father Walter Vaughn Crites, Walter Vaughn was the son of Wm Green and Rebecca Jane Deavers Crites. According to Mary, William Greene Crites had staked a claim in the Oklahoma land giveaway. He returned to Hood County for his family and on the way back to Oklahoma William got sick and died. Rebecca sold the cattle and went back to Granbury and lived with Columbus and his family.
Mary states William Green buried in Burkburnett, Texas and Rebecca is buried in Granbury. She did not remarry after Wiliam's death.
Descendant, David Howard gives basically the same account. After a cattle drive to Oklahoma William Green realized there was land to be settled. After returning to Hood County he returned on another cattle drive bringing Rebecca, their children and their children, all but Jim and Abbey who remained in Texas. Returning with William's family was his Aunt Charity and husband Henry Tye. Another couple by the name of Weems also came to Oklahoma to settle. David has been told by ancestors that William Green died of a spider bite before reaching Oklahoma. Rebecca returned to Hood County and lived with relatives until her death. She is believed to be buried in Hood County. is NOT responsible for the content of the GEDCOMs uploaded through the WorldConnect Program.
