a. Note:   There is a Marriage record for a James Heflin and Nancy Thurmond in G
Note:   reene Co. Court of Ordinary, Greene Co. GA Marriage Book 1806-1809 P. 5 (bond given 30th dec 1805, executed 31 Dec 1805 and recorded 4 jan 1806 by Wm. Browning. This is I believe, a different James. Much of the conflicting information on this prior marriage to Nancy Thurmond is from records in the possession of Mackie Sue Bryan , a descendant, who obtained DAR membership using her Bible records as well as civil records in her possession. The Bible records state that James Heflin's father was John Heflin and his mother Mary Davis. The publication date of this Bible, however, is many years after the events recorded therein. Researchers of the Heflin line have discovered quite a few "James Heflin"s in the same time period. There is a difference of opinion on which one is which and married whom.
