Note: Attended the University of Nebraska, where he met Pearl Youngers. Farmed in Wilsonville, Nebraska, following their wedding, where he planted trees given to him by Peter Youngers, Jr., bordering the driveway into their place. The farm is 6 to 8 miles west of Wilsonville and as of the early 1990s the trees were still healthy and quite prominent in a desolate farming area. He and Pearl shortly moved to Geneva to farm land owned by Pearl's father. Rodney remembers his father Robert
planting apple trees in the "new orchard" , digging holes by planting a stick of dynamite. Robert was very handy mechanically, owned one of the first tractors, maintained the steam engine which ran the thrashing machine.
