He attended Knoxville College (now the U. of Tenn) in 1859 and the next year transferred to a college in Canada. He got a medical degree at Albany College, N. Y. after the Civil War and joined the U. S. Army as a Surgeon. He married an Austrian woman, who was part of a touring Viennese Orchestra in New York City in 1875. He served many tours in the west, mustering out at Presidio of San Francisco in 1890. He became town doctor in Petaluma, where he died in 1906.
