Note: In 1790 several of this family changed the spelling to MATHEWSON. Christy Mathewson the great baseball player was a member of this lineage. Henry owned the present site of the village of Crompton, RI. His land adjoined the lands of Thomas Matteson and James Green and was on both sides of Pawtuxet. His sons sold 127 acres, June 4, 1779, for 1200 pounds. Will dates December 12, 1756.
