a. Note:   Bigmama's Father. S.E. Gaither served under Gen. Nathan Bedford Forrest in the Civil War. He was only 16 years old when he joined the Confederate Army. He captured eight Union soldiers singlehandedly between Williston and Moscow, Tennessee. He was a charter member of the Williston, TN Masonic Lodge #493 F&AM, a member of Shady Grove Cumberland Presbyterian Church (now called Shady Grove Church of Unity), and a Knight of Honor. He built the Gaither general store in Williston in 1871. The store passed from the Gaither family to the Crawford family in the 1890's. The store is now on the National Registry of Historical Sites.
