Note: Lottie Gaither was born April 9, 1884. She was called "Bigmama" by her grandchildren. At some time prior to 1945, Lottie had fallen and broken her hip. She had one shoe built up quite a bit because her injured hip caused one leg to be shorter than the other. She walked with a pronounced limp. It did not seem to slow her down very much as she seemed to get around quite well. Bigmama was a superior cook and could put on a spread that was fit for a king. She had floor-length, silver gray hair, that she would take down at night and brush, holding it across her lap. Then she would put it back into the bun she always wore. Lottie has a rich family heritage, being a descendant of the first John Gaither to come to Jamestown, America in 1620. Lottie died while in Memphis attending the funeral of her sister, Suzie, on July 1, 1956, age 72.
