Family tradition has it they removed to Franklinview, Cattaraugus Co., NY. Tom Boyd (Ellis' son of Williston, ND), informed me that he had a newspaper clipping of a checkered school house at which Darius supposedly attended. According to the Cattaraugus County Historian, this school house was painted in red and white squares in 1841 and called the checkered school house. I have found no record of the Boyd family near Franklinview, Cattaraugus Co., but it is possible they resided there a short time before removing to WI. Is there a 1865 state census?
Census 1870, Lincoln, Adams Co., WI for Barney, resided with the Edward Baker household. (By this time Edward's first wife, Emma Phelps had died and Barney's daughter had not yet married Edward Baker, which she did on 30 Jul. 1870) Question is, why was the Boyd family residing with the Baker's? Because Emma was a possible niece of Zerviah? Or was Edward Baker's father or mother a relative? (It is interesting to note that a Edward Baker's sister, Almira, also married a Phelps - Ralph Phelps, in 1864, son of Clark Phelps, grandson of Elijah Phelps. What a web we spin!) Barney B. Boyd age 72, farmer, born NJ Zeriah, age 62 born VT D. Scott, age 22, born NY Mary E., age 23, born NY Census 1880, Lincoln, Adams Co., WI for Zerviah - She resided with her daughters family, Mary (Boyd) and Edward C. Baker. Is Zerviah (Phelps) (Coal) Boyd the daughter of Solomon and Polly/Mary (Emery) Phelps, of LaFayette? Barney is buried at Pine Grove Cemetery, Lincoln, Adams Co., WI. Gravestone says "Barney Boyd, died 5 Jan 1873, aged 75 years, 11ms, & 11 days" making him born 25 Jan. 1797?
