Elisabeth Mengel: Birth: 07 NOV 1782.
Magdalena Mengel: Birth: 20 NOV 1795.
Joseph Mengel: Birth: 28 APR 1807.
Note: This may or may not be the same Adam Mengel. in the New Jerusalem (Dunkels) Church, Greenwich Twp. (near Virginville), Berks County, PA baptismal records:
Child: Adam, baptized August 16, 1752 Parent: Frederick Mengel Sponsors: Adam Mengel and Eliza Mengel
Adam was an American Revolutionary War veteran. He served as a private in Captain Nicholas Schaeffer's Company, 1st Battalion, Berks County Militia, Pennsylvania Volunteers. He was called into Continental Army service on Dec 10, 1776 and released from service January 22, 1777.
In 1836 Adam received a pension from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania for his Revolutionary War service.
Tax records show Adam lived in Bern Twp. from at least 1774 until 1786 and in Brunswick Twp from 1788 onward. Church records bear out a similar finding: Adam's daughter Catharine was baptized at the Bern Reformed Church in 1784 and his fifth child George was baptized at the Red Church in 1789. Among the early Bern Twp. families can be found the names Blatt and Noecker.
In the later years of their lives Adam & Elisabeth helped their children establish their own farms and homes including selling their own land to them, which was to become the custom of this clan. Their home is believed to be the same home as owned by their son John (Johannes) in Mengel's Eck northwest of Port Clinton. Tax and census records show Adam & Elisabeth did live with John after they sold their land.
