Continued: BIOGRAPHY: Living in former East Prussia, he was forced to join the German army in World War I and to fight against Poland. He also fought on other fronts, becoming wounded in the battle of Verdun in 1916, in which French forces repelled a massive German offensive. On his return home, he took part in the Great Poland Uprising in 1918. Later on, he settled back in his home-village Lagiewniki and during World War II, he actively took part in some battles. When his second son, Mieczyslaw, took over an abandoned villa in Walcz after the war, he moved there with the rest of the family and worked as an officer in the City Council.
