Note: Being the youngest son of a nobleman and standing to inherit nothing, Lord William Cooke came to the new country with his wife, Jeanette, in 1770 and their friends and distant cousins, Lord Thomas Avenwell, and his wife, Rebecca, establishing the metropolitan cites of Knight City, named for the Lady Jeanette Knight's family; and Helsdon, named for the wife of Lord Wm. Avenwell, and the small town that they preferred to call home, Avenwell Bluffs, in Cooke County. This was where they established hundreds of acres of vineyards.
